The Adelaide Hills Hawks senior team travelled to the synthetic pitch at Adelaide Shores on Saturday to take on an inform Fulham.
Bolstered by their good result against 2nd placed South Adelaide last weekend the team was in a confident mood but we're quickly undone against a well organised Fulham side. The Hawks brought in talented young goalkeeper Travis Brookes to replace the injured Connor Hudson and Jimmy Lenzi replaced midfielder Dan Ryles who succumbed to a knee injury in last week's physical encounter.
Not much was known about Fulham as the club had never played against them, but they were known to be a well organised team who were dangerous at set pieces. Sure enough, the Hills unit were punished in the 3rd minute of play when Fulham's Maolio ghosted in at the far post from a corner to bundle the ball into the net.
This lifted the home side as they began to boss the midfield and the Hawks conceded a 2nd goal in the 22nd minute as Fulham's midfielder Mittiga was left free at the far post to head the ball home.
The Hawks tried desperately to get themselves back into the game and made four changes in the second half, but there were too many players down on their game to make any significant impact.
Fulham scored their third in the last minute of the game when Japanese import Harramatsu scored on the counter attack.
Best in a below par performance were Pauli, Elliott and Loechel. The Hawks now focus on a home encounter against Western Strikers next Sat night.
